Working on a kid's bedroom might be overwhelming, but it is a pretty cool experience. So first things first...
Here is a before picture.

Pick a theme
Every kid is different and what my kid might like, might not be interesting for yours. My son is four years old and he might have a hard time deciding which one is b or d, but he surely knows the difference between a Bone Shaker and a Hot Rod from Hot Wheels. So it was a no brainer that as soon as I asked my son, he yelled "Hot Wheel's bedroom, mom!!".

Scheme
Start with the colors. Decide what colors work best with the theme and have fun with them because like someone once said, "The sky is the limit".
TIP. There is a variety of colors, but take a photo with you to the store and get a sample of the closest ones.

Furniture
Decide on the shape, color, layout... but more importantly space to walk and play. After all, they are kids!! I ended up deciding that I was going to fix and repurpose my old furniture set and so I did. I cannot tell how impressed I am with the results!!! Definitely, one of my top DIY jobs.

Walls
Painting is one of my favorite things to do in a space. It's the easiest way to change a space in less than a day. But adding a touch such as a chair rail, took a simple color change and made it into a fun and catchy bedroom. So let your imagination run.

Decor
This is my favorite part, I love buying little pieces that make a whole bedroom cozy and your own. Accessories are what make your space personal. Plus they make areas prettier, but don't forget it is a kid's bedroom so don't stress out making it perfect. Your kids will love it anyways.
TIP. Use your kid's toy as accessories. It will save you money and they will adore it.

I hope you enjoyed this and here an after photo. Blessings...
